It seems I've
wanted a Grand Wagoneer (the original) since they were first introduced.
I was lucky enough to
buy one in 2008. I haven't put a lot of miles on it but have enjoyed
owning in many ways.
Now, unfortunately, I am forced to
sell the car due to vision impairment issues. For this same
reason I have chosen not to repair the small number of issues that a
new owner may choose to address. (See
these Notes)
I am the second private owner of this vehicle. It has been and remains a
solid, dependable and fun vehicle to drive anywhere, any time.
It often prompts
strangers to remark about its pristine condition, good looks and how
they hope to own an original Jeep Grand Wagoneer someday.
It has been
garaged most of its thirty-three years. When not garaged, it was
covered with a high quality Cover King cover.
The car has no
significant leaks, starts easily and heats up quickly in the winter.
It drives smoothly in a stable manner with good acceleration and
braking capabilities.
The windshield glass is clear with no scratches,
cracks or puck marks.
Side glass has been professionally tinted.
Interior upholstery, carpet and door panels are near perfect. No
stains, no fading, no dirt.
This is your
chance to buy an example of this unique marque at a reasonable
price. It's also an opportunity to buy a classic that is likely to
appreciate in value over the next few years.
(See the
Bloomberg Money article on this subject.)
You can choose to
use it a daily driver as-is, or restore to absolutely
pristine condition with a minimum amount of work and money.
There are a
few issues that may require attention by a new owner. See

1989 JEEP Grand Wagoneer-
2 WD/ 4WD
3 speed automatic with High and Low Range control, 360 CU V8 with 4 barrel carburetor.
This Jeep Grand Wagoneer has a ride quality that is more
comfortable than many modern SUV's.
It's is a fun & unique vehicle to own and drive.
The ride is quiet
and smooth on the firm side. The vehicle does not sway or roll
keeping
the driver always in control. (It is equipped with an aftermarket
anti-roll bar.) This Grand Wagoneer like most Jeeps has great traction in the
rain and snow especially with
4WD high or low engaged. Four wheel drive (high and low) is
activated with switches on the dashboard, not at the wheel hub
level.
Generous premium
sound-proofing material installed on the bottom side of hood.
Only 10,159 were
produced.
The woody styling of this vehicle with plenty of
chrome is very nostalgic and the wide expanse of glass
with thin
pillars gives excellent visibility.
Cargo room is quite generous and
the interior is durable, luxurious & comfortable.
This vehicle is in good to
very good condition inside and out
(see notes).
There is little to no rust in the body panels or undercarriage.
The current owner has kept it garaged or covered for most of its
life.
The undercarriage
was professionally undercoated by Z Tech Naperville.
The windows were also tinted by this company.
The car is located time in a suburb near Chicago.
If you want more
information and are serious about purchasing this vehicle
you can contact the owner at
cclapton@comcast.net.
Replies are not feasible for messages that ask if the vehicle is
still available.

Many Grand
Wagoneer enthusiasts make extra money by renting their vehicle
for day trips
with the Hagerty Insurance sponsored program called Drive Share.
Others register their cars with companies that provide vehicles for
movie and TV ad production.
The Grand Wagoneer marque says
"American, stable, solid, secure" which is why so many advertisers
want the car in their commercials.
As of September, 2020, in the greater Chicago market,
both "Botox" and "Swizzlers" feature the GW in their ads.
Here's a list of movies in which the GW appears. . . l |

This is a
note that came with the car from the original owner of the vehicle:
This Jeep is
simply the finest vehicle I've ever owned. Its' got ample power,
plush comfort, unmistakable styling, and is extremely accessible to
work on.
I have
found nothing that handles better in snow, and the 360 makes high
driving fun.
Quite the
cult following for these truck, with a camaraderie among
enthusiasts.
It can
hold it own against any other of the more modern vehicles in its
class (that have the advantage of 30 years of technology) that are
currently rolling off the line.
Its
styling is nostalgic, complete with vinyl wood grain rim and plenty
of chrome. Finding it in parking areas is never much of a challenge.
Also, the wide expanse of glass and slim pillars make for unrivaled
visibility. Cargo room is exceptional and the seats are quite
comfortable even on the longest trips.
The Grand
Wagoneer is affordable, attractive, capable, comfortable, reliable,
and an all around blast to drive. Nothing currently out on the
market can compare.
360 V*
still holds 40 pounds of oil pressure, hot, the bullet proof
Chrysler 727 tranny shifts like a charm, and the NP229 transfer case
works flawlessly.
